Accurately Determine Battery Charge Life and Remaining Useful Life Using Technology Developed for the Space Shuttle and Advanced Military Aircraft
Each battery has a unique and distinct degradation profile based on its usage history and operating environment. Uncertainty in accurately predicting the ability of a battery or other storage device to deliver energy when needed is a significant issue in industrial and military battery applications. Currently, a battery’s Remaining Useful Life (RUL) before replacement is needed is approximated based on ideal operating conditions.
Expert Microsystems has develop and validated patented software that predicts when a battery will fail before it fails and also accurately determines how long it can run on a charge and how many more charge cycles are available before a replacement is required. Our predictions are based on the actual operating environment and usage history for each individual battery rather than general ideal case scenarios.
This software was originally developed in conjunction with the Department of Energy, NASA and the US Military for management of critical assets and is now available for battery and stored energy applications. Benefits of our unique software include:
- Accurately predict battery charge life before recharging is required (Capacity RUL or “Fuel Gauge Application”)
- Accurately predict remaining charge/discharge cycles before replacement is required (Cycle or Service RUL)
- Detect and diagnose battery faults before they impact performance
- Applicable to any battery chemistry
- Ensure improved reliability, longer service life and improved safety
- Reduce premature battery replacement costs
- Embed in OEM products to provide built in diagnostic and prognostic capabilities
